  • Over 40 New Rowers Attend Learn To Row Classes In 2023

Over 40 new rowers have attended NRC Learn To Row classes this summer, making a big return of rowing on Beebe Cove in 2023. The classes offered an opportunity to learn a great sport on Beebe Cove, one of the best environments to safely learn the sport. Our coaches Daria Colbath, Liz Butler and Rachel Solomon did an outstanding job with our rookie rowers. NRC plans on expanding the LTR program in 2024 with more classes and working closely with area schools.

  • Newest Addition To The Fleet

Noank’s newest addition to the fleet of sculls arrived at the boathouse around the beginning of August. The Noank Rowing Club has invested in a factory reconditioned Fluid Design carbon fiber double to replace an aging Gray Matter shell that has been rowed hard for the last 50 years. It is 32’ long, 12” wide at the waterline and weighs just 57 lbs. and designated for coached training, racing and use by experienced rowers. Gray Matter has had a lustrous career having been owned and rowed hard by a 6’ 8” Olympian staring in the 70’s. NRC rebuilt the boat in the 80’s, but in May of this year, the boat began to fail during a competition and the club realized it was time to retire a workhorse shell that has served us well for over 30 years. A big shout out to our coaches Sean and Allie Harvey who discovered the 2X availability and negotiated a very favorable acquisition price for the club. Oh, and by the way, she rows like a dream!

  • Pizza and Oyster FUNdraiser

Over 70 rowers, residents and friends of the Noank Rowing Club attended the first Pizza and Oyster FUNdraiser at Palmer’s Provisions and Pizza on Pearl Street in Noank on Thursday July 27th. We all enjoyed Palmer’s gourmet pizza and slurped over 200 oysters from Sixpenny Oyster Farm. Desserts were generously donated by Zest Bakery to round out a perfect meal. The Basket Bonanza raffled off some great prizes like an overnight stay at The Whaler’s Inn, Dinners at Mohegan Sun, and two dozen other prizes, generously donated by local merchants. The proceeds will go into NRC’s operating fund to maintain the rowing fleet and expand rowing programs for youth and adults. Good times, great people, and lots of good food. Thanks to Pat Kelly for organizing the event, to our local businesses and Palmer’s for hosting the event.

  • New Website Looks Great!

You are looking at Noank Rowing Club’s new website. After several months of work by the web committee (Daria Colbath, Paul Chomet and Chuck Toal) we are launching an easier and more informative website to serve new and prospective rowers in the Groton/ Noank area. Check out our photos and links to area resources. Our new site will give everyone the information they need to row and keep informed about club activities. Thanks to Daria for her web skills. We hope you enjoy it!
