Support the Spirit of Rowing

Early this September, 13 students got off the Marine Science Magnet High School bus at Spicer Park to learn a new sport of rowing. They were all freshmen from different towns trying a new sport with a group of kids they never met. With help of our skilled coaches, they eventually rowed across the cove and back….. together. They will remember their success with new friends and the lessons of teamwork and leadership for a long time.

Noank Rowing Club is a not for profit (501c 3) volunteer group dedicated to community rowing. It’s a part of the heritage of our town. We provide certified coaches, well maintained gear and a welcoming environment for everyone who wants to learn. We are able keep it affordable (sometimes free) because of the generosity of our neighbors and supporters. That’s where you come in. Our costs continue to rise, insurance is our biggest expense, shells need to be maintained, gear needs to be replaced, and we need to compensate our coaches for their skills. Your donation (no matter what size) can help us.

That is why we are writing to you today to ask you if you would become a part of our crew that sustains an organization and teaches youth and adults the art of rowing. All of this takes money. While we host fundraisers, recruit memberships and sponsor classes throughout the year, it doesn’t cover it all. We are respectfully asking for your help to keep those team shells, launches and safety gear in good shape and to maintain the best environment for anyone who comes to Noank to learn the sport.

Please be as generous as you can…… Is $100 okay? Maybe more? If not, pick an amount that is good for you. Click on the “Donate Now” button. No gift is too small, and every gift will make a difference.

In just eight lessons, those 13 freshmen became a crew. They lifted 52’ boats, rowed together and helped each other to coordinate the stroke. They now have something in common with new friends and confidence in their newfound skills. That’s the spirit of rowing!
