Noank Rowing Club's coach Thom-Shap gave a dozen MSMHS students eight classes to introduce them to sculling and sweep rowing. Crew members were first given time to warm up on our ergs and then shown how to safely carry and launch an 8+ that is 54' long. Classes weren't just about rowing, but included guidance on fitness, nutrition and the spirit of the sport. While the students were all from the same school, they didn't know each other until they landed at Beebe Cove, but It wasn't long until they found how rowing brings everyone together to build trust and communication skills that will last a lifetime. Our thanks to MSMHS Principal Tara Amatrudo, Coach Rachel Thomas-Shapiro and to all the NRC volunteers who made the program a success.
