On the third week of October, rowers from around the world gather in Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta.
A fall favorite, this regatta brings together high school, collegiate, elite, and master rowers in singles, doubles, quads, fours, and eights down a course with 5 turns and 7 bridges. The 54th Head of the Charles has 2,308 entries representing 804 clubs. It is the place to be in the rowing world each fall.
Two of our Junior Racers got lucky in the Head of the Charles lottery and will be representing Noank Rowing Club in the Youth Men’s Doubles event. Adrian and Fabrizio have been putting in extra practices to prepare for this event. They will be competing against 43 other youth doubles from across the country. Their race will begin on Sunday, October 21st at 11:14 am. Adrian and Fabrizio will be competing as bow #43.
Two of our coaches will also be competing at the Head of the Charles. Dale will be rowing 6-seat and Allie will be in the coxswain’s seat in the Blood Street Scull’s Men’s Senior Masters Eights event. Their race will begin in Saturday, October 20th at 9:47 am. Allie & Dale will be competing as bow #29.
If you can make the day trip up to Boston, there is plenty to see and do at the Head of the Charles! Check out the rowing vendors, pull up a seat along the river, or scope out a spot on one of the bridges to watch the races go by. Watch in awe as the Championship Eights pass by on Sunday afternoon (Men’s Champ Eights race at 1:55pm while the Women’s Champ Eights race at 2:26). Enjoy some chowda in a bread bowl while you wait to cheer on NRC!
If you cannot make it up to Boston, you can watch the racing live on the web at http://www.rowingchannel.com.
