Take it to the Banks!
Groton Police Challenge NRC Youth Rowers!
We named it with all due respect "Take It To (Officer) Banks"! Noank Rowing Club is so pleased to have had this opportunity to host officer Banks, Sergeant Miner & Sergeant Wolfe for this erg challenge! What FUN!
NRC Youth Rowers accepted a commuinty challenge set by Groton Policeman Officer Banks to row a 2000 meter piece on the (land based) ergometers. Oh – Officer Banks and Sergeant Miner both rowed in their police uniform - complete with vest & special belt!!!
Officer Banks (below photo - far left) brought in the best raw erg score - a lovely even number! Congratulations Officer Banks! Sergeant Miner (middle) honored his "police crew" with a very respectable show! Great going!
Since rowers of all sizes, weights, ages and heights jumped into the challenge, the erg scores were weight adjusted according to the erg manufacture.
Ledyard HS junior Ryan K (near) was the overall winner who earned a Lobster Dinner Sized gift certificate donated by neighborhood supporter Ford's Lobster! Other winners included experienced rowers Kate K, Lydia P, Kyle K, as well as novice rowers Julia L, Troy M, Mateao W, & Holly S, each the best in their own weight class!
NRC is comprised of students from 10 different SE Region schools. A total of 22 rowers (youth & police combine) competed in this event! What a great way to compete elbow to elbow with professional and curtious policemen - on the ergs!!
NRC looks forward to inviting the Groton Police back again - for a lovely row on the Beebe Cove (soon!) and/or another erg challenge (as their busy schedule permits!) This event is a lovely example of NRC's motto "Building Community One Stroke At A Time"! Thank you again for this opportunity!
